Biography:
I’ve been a Graphic Designer since I was 17, and I wouldn’t be surprised if I ended up designing my own headstone! (LOL!) For me, Graphic Design is all about creating visually appealing, honest, and engaging communication—whether in print, digital media, television, or other mass-produced forms. Graphic Design can be artistic, but it’s a distinct profession, not to be confused with Fine Art.
Back in the early ’70s, I trained in both fine art and commercial art at “Tech,” which gave me a well-rounded foundation. As a Graphic Designer, I work within the realm of mass communication, which contrasts with Fine Art’s focus on unique, handcrafted pieces. Yet, I was lucky to find a role that combined both fields during my almost 15 years as a freelance Graphic Designer for Kings Park and Botanic Garden, where I could bring together fine art sensibilities with graphic design expertise.
On the night, I’d like to share a few recent projects and discuss some ideas I have for using graphic design to spruce up church buildings and signage, adding fresh and engaging visuals to these spaces.
PS. Please bring a plate to share!
