The Friendly Fig Café is being created as a welcoming place where these moments can happen every day.
Nestled within Friendship Central in the Swan Valley, the café is designed to be a gathering place for people of all ages and backgrounds—a place where community, belonging, and caring for creation come together.
The story behind the name
The name The Friendly Fig carries a special story.
When GFS Perth first arrived at the Friendship Central site, a fig tree stood as a quiet and welcoming presence. Although the tree could not remain as part of the site’s development, its spirit continues to inspire what is being built here today.
The Friendly Fig honours that tree and what it represented: generosity, connection, and a sense of belonging.
As Friendship Central grows, new fig trees will become part of the site’s developing food forest, ensuring that the story continues for future generations.
A place connected to the land
Friendship Central sits on Whadjuk Noongar Country, a landscape that has nourished communities for thousands of years.
The Friendly Fig Café embraces this connection to place by celebrating the seasons, local produce, and the stories that make the Swan Valley unique.
From the surrounding gardens and food forest to the people who help care for them, the café will be deeply connected to the land and community around it.
