Our Projects

Permaculture Partnerships
Program.

Permaculture-Informed | Locally Led | Sustainably run

Community gardens hold incredible potential to bring people together, grow fresh food, strengthen neighbourhoods, and create a shared purpose. They also support broader outcomes such as community resilience, climate adaptation, waterwise practices, and stronger local networks.

However, many struggle to last. What often begins with enthusiasm can fade over time due to volunteer burnout, unclear structures, or a lack of ongoing support.

That’s why we created the Permaculture Partnerships Program.

Our Vision

Developed by GFS Perth, the Permaculture Partnerships Program helps community gardens become locally led, permaculture-informed, and sustainably run.

It supports host organisations and volunteers to start new gardens or “triage and reset” gardens that are struggling.

What is permaculture?
Think of it as nature-smart design: observing how nature already works, then using those ideas to create gardens and community spaces that are healthier, easier to care for, and full of life.

Permaculture helps us:
  • Grow more, waste less
  • Save water
  • Invite helpful creatures – bees, birds, lizards
  • Turn problems into solutions
  • Create greener, friendlier spaces to meet, learn, and share

Why this program matters

Community gardens are practical local infrastructure that deliver multiple public benefits.

  • Mental wellbeing: Connection, inclusion, and reduced loneliness
  • Active living: Accessible physical activity through gardening and regular events
  • Healthy eating: Fresh local produce, food skills, and community food activities

Swan View Community Garden

A Pilot for Sustainable Community Growth

Swan View Community Garden is a pilot site focused on simple systems, a strong local volunteer team, and a welcoming space that grows food, skills, and connection.

Volunteering at Swan View is a great way to:

  • Meet neighbours and be part of a friendly local community
  • Learn permaculture and gardening skills by doing (no experience needed!)
  • Help grow a healthier, greener space for everyone
  • Share your own skills, culture, and ideas

Want to get involved?

Join our monthly garden meet-ups for easy gardening, warm conversation, and simple learning. It’s a welcoming space for all ages and abilities to connect, share tips, and help care for our local patch.
